Abstract

INTRODUCTION: In orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning a valid evaluation of an antero-posterior jaw relationship is vitally important. To assess the antero-posterior jaw discrepancy between the maxilla and the mandible, various angular and linear measurements have been suggested so as to reach an accurate diagnosis. AIM OF THE STUDY: To compare ANB angle, Beta angle used to measure sagittal dysplasia and to find out which is the most reliable amongst them. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sample comprised of 400 pre-treatment lateral Cephalograms. The variables calculated were SNA Angle, SNB Angle, ANB Angle and the Beta Angle. RESULTS: ANOVA test, Pearson correlation and few other statistical tests were performed and the differences, associations and correlations were found between ANB Angle and Beta Angle in all the subjects. CONCLUSION: It is safe to conclude that similar to the ANB angle, the Beta angle is also a significant angle to assess the sagittal jaw relationship between maxilla and mandible.
