Abstract

A study to evaluate the effectiveness of video teaching programme on knowledge regarding learning disabilities of school children among primary school teachers in a selected school at Elayampalayam, Namakkal district. OBJECTIVES: To assess the knowledge of primary school teachers regarding learning disabilities of school children before the administration of video teaching programme. To assess the knowledge of primary school teachers regarding learning disabilities of school children after the administration of video teaching programme. To compare the pre-test and post-test score. To find out the association between pre-test knowledge score with selected sociodemographic variables. The research approach adopted for the study was quantitative evaluative approach. The research design selected for the study was quasi – experimental one group pretest post-test design, which was used to measure the effectiveness of video teaching programme.The selection of primary school teachers was done by convenience sampling technique and the sample consists of 40 primary school teachers in Mahendra Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Elayampalayam, Namakkal district. The instrument used for data collection was semistructured questionnaire. The tool consists of 2 sections. Section – A comprised of socio demographic variables Section – B comprised of knowledge regarding learning disabilities of school children The reliability of the tool was 0.94. Knowledge was assessed by using semi structured questionnaire from primary school teachers. The video teaching programme was administered following pretest. Post-test was conducted seven days after the administration of video teaching programme. The collected data were analyzed by using descriptive and inferential statistics in terms of frequencies, percentages, mean standard deviation, paired t – test and chi – square test. The present study revealed that there was association between pre test knowledge and demographic variables such as age, educational status, years of teaching experience and previous experience in identifying learning disabilities. But there was no association between pretest knowledge and other socio demographic variables such as sex, marital status and role of teacher in identifying learning disabilities. The findings of the study provided guidelines for nursing practice, nursing education, nursing administration and further nursing research.
