Abstract

TITLE: Effectiveness of chlorhexidine mouth wash Vs coconut oil pulling on mucositis among children receiving chemotherapy in paediatric medical ward at GRH, Madurai. OBJECTIVES: 1. To assess the level of mucositis among children receiving chemotherapy. 2. To evaluate the effectiveness of chlorhexidine mouth wash in intervention group I and coconut oilpulling in intervention group II. 3. To compare the posttest level of mucositis among children receiving chemotherapy in intervention group I and II. 4. To associate the level of mucositis among children receiving chemotherapy with their selected socio demographic variables. HYPOTHESIS: There is statistically significant difference between the pretest and posttest level of healing process on mucositis among children receiving chemotherapy. There is statistically significant difference between posttest level of healing process on mucositis among children receiving chemotherapy. There is significant association between the level of healing process on mucositis among children receiving chemotherapy with their selected socio demographic variables. METHODOLOGY: True experimental (pretest posttest) research design was used 30 subjects selected by probability (Simple random) sampling. RESULTS: ‘t’ test revealed that, “t” = 0.000 at p=0.05 level. There is significant difference between chlorhexidine mouth wash and coconut oil pulling. CONCLUSION: Chlorhexidine mouth wash is effective than coconut oil pulling.
