Abstract

TITLE: A study to evaluate the effectiveness of tepid sponging on pyrexia among children (6- 12 years) in paediatric ward, Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. OBJECTIVES: To assess the level of pyrexia among children. To evaluate the effectiveness of tepid sponging on pyrexia management among children. To associate the level of pyrexia management among children (6-12 years) in Paediatric ward, GRH, Madurai with their selected socio demographic variables. HYPOTHESES: H1: There is statistically significant difference between the pre test and post test level of pyrexia among the children (6-12 years) in Paediatric ward, GRH, Madurai. H2: There is statistically significant association between the post test level of pyrexia management among the children (6-12 years) in Paediatric ward, GRH, Madurai with their selected socio demographic variables. METHODOLOGY: True experimental (pre test post test control group) design was used 60 subjects selected by probability sampling (simple random lottery method) technique. Digital thermometer was used to assess Pre test level of pyrexia. Intervention was given and Post test was assessed with the help of Digital Thermometer. RESULTS: The result revealed that, there was a significant difference between post test level of temperature reduction confirmed by 2=1.93 at 0.05 level. CONCLUSION: This study statistically proved that tepid sponging was effective on pyrexia among children (6-12 years).
