Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Vitiligo is an autoimmune disorder with various medical and surgical treatment modalities. The best repigmentation rate does not exceed 70% even in surgical modality. Follicular cell suspension is one such surgical technique with better cosmetic results which combats the social stigma among young individuals. AIM & OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study is to determine the efficacy of follicular cell suspension in the repigmentation of stable vitiligo patients and to observe any untoward side effects. METHODOLOGY: In this study, 43 patients attending dermatology OPD, diagnosed as stable vitiligo were included after fulfilling the criteria. The procedure was done after getting consent and pre-treatment workup. Regular follow up with clinical photographs by which grading was done every month. RESULTS: Excellent repigmentation was seen in 63.4% of patients followed by good repigmentation in 26.8% of patients. The receipient area showed good color match in 73.1% of patients. The receipient area showed erythema in 7.3% and nil side effects was observed in donor area. The mean quality of life (DQLI) of the patients improved from 14.07 to 4.00. CONCLUSION: Follicular cell suspension was found to be effective and safe in the stable vitiligo with less side effects. Majority of patients had excellent repigmentation with good color match of the recipient skin color. This novel, minimally invasive, scarless technique helps to improve the quality of life in stable vitiligo patients.
