Abstract

A study to evaluate the effectiveness of video teaching on knowledge and attitude regarding selected aspects of Dawn’s rule of ten among primigravida mothers in Christian Fellowship Hospital at Oddanchatram. The present study was conducted at Christian Fellowship Hospital (C.F.H), Oddanchatram. Permission was obtained from the medical superintendent of C.F.H. Pre experimental one group pretest and posttest design was used for this study. Data collection was done over a period of four weeks. The investigator had selected sixty primigravida mothers by convenience sampling technique. Oral consent was obtained from the study subjects. Pretest was done on day one with structured interview questionnaire for assessing the level of knowledge and graded likert scale was used for assessing the level of attitude on selected aspects of Dawn’s Rule of Ten. Then the investigator administered the video teaching to subjects individually for 35 minutes.5 subjects were taught per day. Posttest on knowledge and attitude was assessed after 14 days of intervention. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the findings of the study. There was a significant difference (P (<0.05) between the pretest mean score [12 (±3.78)] and post test score of knowledge [(23±2.2)] and pretest attitude mean score [19.23 (±3.173)] and posttest mean score [29.42± (2.75)]. There was a positive correlation found between the post test level of knowledge score and posttest level of attitude score(r=0.999). There was a significant association found (P (<0.05) between the level of knowledge and level of attitude with their period of gestation of primigravida mothers. It is concluded that video teaching helps to gain knowledge and change attitude on Dawn’s Rule of Ten among primi gravida mothers.
