Abstract
Evaluative approach with quasi experimental design was used to assess the effectiveness of mock injection on level of anxiety in hospitalized children, where non-probability convenience sampling technique was used to collect data from 60 hospitalized children between 8-12 years in Sri Gokulam Hospital (experimental group) and Pranav Hospital (control group). Modified Spence children’s anxiety scale was used to assess the level of anxiety, analysed by using descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that, in experimental group, 14 (46.66%) children belonged to age group from 8.1 to 9.0 years, 20 (66.66%) children were male, 30 (100%) children had prepared the children in the home for hospitalization, whereas in control group, 10 (33.33%) children belonged to age from 8.1 to 9.0 years, 16 (53.33%) children were male and 29(96.66%) children had prepared the child in the home to hospitalization. During pretest highest and more or less similar percentage 19 (63.33%) children in experimental group and in control group 14 (66.66%) children had severe level of anxiety. However during post test most of the children 26 (86.66%) had only mild anxiety and none of them had severe anxiety in experimental group, whereas in control group 10 (33.33%) children had severe anxiety. There was significant difference at p < 0.001 between the post test mean values of experimental and control group revealing effectiveness of mock injection. Hence research hypothesis (H1) is retained. There is no significant association in the level of anxiety and selected demographic variables among hospitalized children. Hence research hypothesis (H2) is rejected. This study implies that level of anxiety among hospitalized children is reduced after mock injection procedure.
