Abstract

Background: Peroperative analgesia in surgeries involving femur fractures has been a challenge to the Anaesthesiologist since ages. Perineural analgesia is becoming popular as it provides comparable pain relief and decreases the side effects associated with central neuraxial blockade. We decided to compare the analgesic efficacy of ultrasound guided fascia iliaca compartment block with epidural block for postoperative pain relief in patients undergoing femur surgery under sub arachnoid block. We arrived at a conclusion that the FICB holds considerable promise as an effective postoperative analgesia with less side effects compared to Epidural analgesia.
