Abstract

AIM OF THE STUDY: 1. To make a statistical analysis of deaths subjected to autopsy in medico legal cases with various etiologies. associated with adrenal haemorrage. 2. To correlate causes of death associated with adrenal haemorrage due to traumatic and non traumatic causes 3. To conclude regarding the manner of death. MATERIALS AND METHODOLOGY: Study Centre Madras Medical College and Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. Duration: one year. Study design: Prospective. Sample size: 100 patients. Inclusion Criteria: 1. All medicolegal cases of death subjected to autopsy of various causes of death. Exclusion Criteria: 1. All cases of decomposition Recommendations: 1. ADRENAL HAEMORRAGE has been termed the silent killer of the present day as it is rarely given as a differential diagnosis of shock. 2. A Multi Disciplinary approach is essential in investigating for adrenal haemorrage is high risk cases. 3. The management is heavily influenced by the underlying etiology to save the patient. 4. In critically ill patients unrecognized and untreated adrenal insufficiency is usually fatal and as the presentation of acute adrenal insufficiency is variable and non specific. CONCLUSION: 1. The diagnosis of adrenal haemorrage remains a challenge to the physicians as a high morbidity and mortality.it us can be prevented by good decision making and keeping a vigilance on people who present with suspected adrenal haemorrage. 2. Most of the deaths are due to traumatic causes compared to the non traumatic causes. 3. Deaths due to road traffic accidents are most common these days due to the urban population and usage of more transport. 4. Hence when patients survive after a trauma they have be vigilantly watched for adrenal haemorrage and confirming and treating the same becomes more essential. 5. Exclusion of adrenal haemorrage by various means has be one of the criteria in the modern world among physicians.
