Abstract

Urinary tract infections (UTI) are one of the most prevalent bacterial infections and the significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Urinary tract infection is mainly a disease of the females, due to the anatomy of the female urethra. Escherichia coli are responsible for 50%-90% of infections. The gold standard screening test for asymptomatic bacteriuria is the urine culture. The management of asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnancy promptly reduces the perinatal complications Asymptomatic bacteriuria in pregnant women which if not treated, might lead to various perinatal complications. Therefore, routine urine culture should be done for all antenatal women, to detect asymptomatic bacteriuria, and every positive case should be treated.
