Abstract

Siddha system of medicine is one of the oldest and foremost of all other medical systems of the world. The word Siddha comes from the word Siddhi which means an object to attend perfection or heavenly bliss. Health as the perfect state of physical, psychological, social and spiritual component of human being. ❖ The system of medicine has a basic principle of "Unave Marunthu, Marunthe Unavu" along with concepts of Vali, Azhal and Iyyam. This is this are well versed in preparing the higher level of medicines using herbal drugs. This process of high-level medicine has to attend high quality through Alchemy. For this first they have to purify the raw drug, it is not only removing the impurities, but also enhance the property of drugs. Standardisation in siddha the availability of the uniform product in all part of the world and encourage opportunities for siddha formulations in pharmaceuticals. The present study was carried out with an aim to standardize the purification of kalappai kilangu based on qualitative and quantitative analysis as per PLIM guidelines. ❖ Purification process of kalappai kilangu is more important to remove toxins to increase its efficacy and change to easily acceptable. Kalappai kilangu used to treat various chronic disease such as Parasitic skin disease, Snake bite, Scorpion sting, Arthritis, Ulcer etc. ❖ Siddha system recommended that before going to every siddha medicine preparation the drug could be purified properly. The concept of Suddhi (purification) in siddha is not only a process of purification or detoxification, but also a process to enhance the potency and efficacy of the drug. ❖ The raw drug purchased in the products to in Nagercoil, then it splitted into two equal substances. For purification I have chose a method from PADHARTHA GUNA VILAKKAM (MOOLA VARKAM) by Kannu Samy Pillai. pg.no 198. ❖ For this the dried tuber of kalappai kilangu taken and cut into slices . After that it soaked in cow's urine for 3 continues days. After three days it should be taken out and dried, from the fourth day it should be soaked in butter milk at night time and in the morning the soaked tuber should be dried out in sunlight. This process should be followed for 7 days. Finally after drying slices made into powder. ❖ Pesticide and biological screening of both purified and unpurified kalappai kilangu shows all the parameters were within the limit. ❖ The qualitative analysis of Unpurified kalappai kilangu and purified Kalappai kilangu mentioned that all parameters were denoted in recommended ranges. ❖ The Organoleptic test of Unpurified kalappai kilangu is brown, pronounced herbal Aroma, bitter, burning, saturated. ❖ The Organoleptic test for Purified kalappai kilangu is brown, pronounced herbal Aroma, bitter, burning, saturated. ❖ The other parameters are like total ASH value, acid insoluble, water insoluble extractive, alcohol soluble extractive, Alcohol insoluble extractive. All the values are indicated in the results table. ❖ Biochemical analysis of Unpurified kalappai kilangu indicates the presence of sulphate, starch, chloride, ferrous iron, tannic acid, unsaturated compounds, Amino acids. ❖ Biochemical analysis of purified kalappai kilangu indicates the presence of sulphate, chloride, starch, unsaturated compounds, amino acids. ❖ Unpurified Kalappai kilangu indicates the presence of Flavonoids, Steroids, Triterpenoids, Coumarins, Phenol, Tannin, Proteins, Sugar, Betacyanin. ❖ Purified Kalappai kilangu indicates the presence of Flavonoids, Steroids, Phenol, Tannin, Saponins, Betacyanins. Icpoes shows the elements like arsenic, lead, cadmium, Mercury, copper, sodiumis found in BDL. ❖ XRD analysis of Unpurified kalappai kilangu shows the peaks position of 38.32,44.42,64.35,77.50. ❖ XRD analysis of purified Kalappai kilangu shows the peaks position of 38.30,44.12,64.40,77.45 ❖ The result indicated that the unpurified and Purified kalapi kilangu contains and appreciatable number of bioactive compounds. ❖ HPTLC Finger printing analysis of the sample reviews the presence of 6 prominent peaks correspond to the presence of 6 versatile phyto components presence within it. Rf value of the peaks range from 0.03 _0.71. CONCLUSION: Standardization of Sidhha medicine is a need to be in the present world, even though the medicine has the efficacy, potential, long back indigenous the quality of a drug should be defined as the status of a drug that is determined by identity, purity and other chemical, physical, properties. ❖ Here this method of purification was done in kalappai kilangu by the help of classical siddha literature. The present study is an attempt to established the science basis of the raw drug. ❖ From the details of the present investigation, it was concluded that the siddha drug kalappai kilangu was purified and analysed. There were noticeable changes found in between Unpurified and purified form of kalappai kilangu. ❖ In Phyto chemical investigation the drug kalappai kilangu shows the presence of Saponins after purification. Saponins have the property to lower the cancer risks and also blood glucose level. And also it can serve as an antidote against Lead poisoning. As discussed earlier kalappai kilangu have the medicinal property of anticancer. All so it has insecticidal, anti inflammatory, anti tumor, anti fungal, anti bacterial, anti parasitic activities. Kalappai kilangu have the potential to cure skin disease, leprosy and worm infestation. From the standardization we can able to achieve the property. ❖ Hence the concept of purification procedure as mention in siddha text provides contemporary evidence with the good scientific background. ❖ This exploration we definitely help to set a standard procedure for further pharmaceutical application.
