Abstract

Life style disorders have been a major factor affecting many people of the society, one among them is Vatha Gunmam (Peptic Ulcer Disease). Various classical medicines of herbal, herbo-mineral and mineral origins were prescribed by Siddhars for solving, finding and providing better remedy of Vatha Gunmam. So I have chosen Perungaya Chooranam , Sarabendira Vaidhiya Muraigal (Gunma roga sigichai) for the management of Vatha gunmam.Vatha Gunmam is a specific Gastro intestinal disorder mentioned in the Yugi Vaidhya Chinthamani. The signs and the symptoms of Vatha Gunmam more or less resemble with that of symptoms in Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) of modern medicine. The study was planned to document the efficacy of my trail drug Perungaya Chooranam in the management of Vatha Gunmam. 60 patients with Clinical Assessment Score (Grade ≥ 2) were recruited for the study and treated with Perungaya Chooranam 6.3g with adjuvant, hot water twice daily for 30 days. The face to face questionnaire was administrated at the time of enrolment. The study shows that the prevalence of Vatha Gunmam is higher in males of Out patients (56.67%) and in females of In patients (56.67%). Out patients were mostly affected in Pitha kaalam (34-66, 76.67%) and In patients were also mostly affected in Pitha kaalam (86.66%). On Naadi examination of Out patients (23.33%) had vaatha Pitha Naadi and among In patients (20%) had vaatha pitha naadi. After the trial, the majority of the cases showed clinically cured & well improvements based on clinical Assessment score (Grade ≥ 2, 90%). The preclinical studies such as biochemical studies, pharmacological & Toxicity studies add an account for the anti- ulcer, anti-spasmodic activity. FT-IR and Powder microscopy showed the presence of functional groups and Structural compounds respectively. All the relevant results were statistically analysed.
