Abstract
A common childhood problem Diarrhoea (Kanakazhichal) is clearly described in various Siddha texts. The research drug Ilanthai kudineer chooranam Mentioned in a Siddha literature Balavagadam by Ka.Sa.Murugesa muthaliyar was selected and the study is conducted after the proposal was screened by the Screening committee. The clinical study has been approved by IEC, GSMC, Palayamkottai (GSMC/ IECVII/ 2020-Br.IV/18-16.11.2020). The trial is registered in clinical trial Registry of India with Reg. No. CTRI /2020/12/029890. The authentication of ingredients of the trial drug was obtained from Department of Gunapadam, GSMC, Palayamkottai. ❖ In this study, twenty inpatients and twenty-four outpatients were treated based on the Siddha system of medicine. The line of treatment is carried out according to Siddha diagnostic procedures and inclusion, exclusion criteria as per protocol and recorded in selection proforma with the help of modern investigations. Then the patients were treated with Ilanthai Kudineer and the observations were noted. CONCLUSION: All the forty-four patients (Children) in Department of Kuzhandhai Maruthuvam, Government siddha medical college Hospital, Palayamkottai with Kanakazhichal were treated with Ilanthai kudineer 15-30 ml twice in a day for 5 days. No adverse effects were found during the treatment period. ❖ The trial drug Ilanthai kudineer is purely herbal and the raw drugs are easily available and it is harmless to children. The method of preparation is easy and the cost is comparatively economical. Analytical Specifications of Ilanthai kudineer Chooranam and Pre-clinical studies evident the safety and efficacy of the trial drug. It is also assured that it is safe for the use of paediatric age group. In this trial drug ingredients like Ilanthai, Puli possess the astringent action, Narathai possess anthelmintic effect and Kanapoondu, Puli possess febrifuge action. So, the complete medicine possess the significant effect in treatment. ❖ Significant Anti diarrhoeal and Anti pyretic activity confirms that Ilanthai kudineer suitable for the symptoms of Kanakazhichal. ❖ 40 subjects (90%) are fully recovered from Kanakazhical and there is gradual reduction in clinical symptoms. The Clinical study results were found to be good. ❖ Hence, the study concluded that the Ilanthai kudineer Chooranam as internal medicine treats Kanakazhical along with healthy diet and good hygiene.
