Abstract

Ceganavatham (Cervical spondylosis) is a degenerative disc disease and usually produces intermittent neck pain in middle-aged and elderly patients. This pain usually responds to activity modification, neck immobilization, isometric exercises, and medication. The disease is more prevalent nowadays due to life style modifications. Pain in neck and other symptoms of the disease has impaired normal activity in our day to day life. In Siddha system of medicine, Cervical spondylosis is termed as Ceganavatham, one of the vatha diseases mentioned in the Siddha text, Yugi Vaidhya Chinthamani 800, 2nd edition, Page.No.106. The medicine Kurosani omam Choornam -260 mg twice a day with Honey was selected for this clinical study. The reference for the trial medicine was taken from the text, Siddha Vaidhya Pathartha Guna Vilakkam, Pg.No.266. In this study, 30 Out patients and 30 In patients were selected in both sex. They were administered with the clinical trial medicine. The trial drug was applied to Biochemical, Antiinflammatory, Analgesic and Antispasmodic activities. At the end of the study, most of the patients exhibited symptomatically good results.
