Abstract
BACKGROUND: Myopia is the common eye disorder worldwide which results by insufficient function of the ciliary muscles of eye. As cold application has certain physiological changes in the eye this study focuses on changes in visual acuity on application of cold mud pack to eyes. Mud pack to the eyes is one of the most common interventions in Naturopathy. OBJECTIVES: This study aims to evaluate the physiological effects of cold mud packs on eyes to influence the ciliary muscle activity in the study participants for changes in visual activity. MATERIALS AND METHODOLOGY: A total of sixty subjects aged (15-40 years) were randomly assigned to the study group (n= 30) and control group (n=30) as per the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Both groups were assessed for baseline assessment, and then the study group followed the Naturopathy intervention (mud pack to eyes) for 30 days (20mins per day), whereas the control group followed their normal routine for 30 days without any intervention. Completion of intervention period all sixty subjects were assessed for post-test assessment. RESULTS: This study result shows statistically significant difference in eye power R.SPH (p 0.03) and L.CYL (p=0.02) in the study group compared to control group whereas no significant improvements noted in refractive D. CONCLUSIONS: This randomized control study among myopia patient showed significant improvement in eye sight after 30 days of mud pack to eyes intervention. Among the visual acuity variables R.SPH (p 0.03) and L.CYL (p=0.02) shows significant improvement in post assessment. This finding of our study shows improvement in eye sight after mud pack intervention with above mentioned visual acuity variables; Hence our study shows that the mud pack to eyes have tremendous beneficial effect on myopia This is a cost effective, non- invasive treatment anyone can follow, If the intervention is extended for a longer duration in each session or increase period of time, major changes such as structural changes in all aspects may improve a recover.
