Abstract

The literature evidence of both the siddha and modern literatures are reviewed and recent studies on the individual drugs of the trial drug were collected. Patients attending the OPD and IPD of GSMC palayamkottai having the complaints of KANASURAM are clinically diagnosed. The ingredients of drug were collected from Tirunelveli district and authenticated by Department of Gunapadam, Government siddha medical college, palayamkottai. After that the drug was prepared as per siddha literature. Then the prepared drug was qualitatively analysed by various chemical methods, which showed the presence of Ferrous iron, Starch, Unsaturated compounds, Reducing sugar, Aminoacid. The antimicrobial activity of prepared drug was evaluated against the Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumonia, Escherichia coli, Klebshiella pneumonia indicates that SANTHANATHI KULIGAI was effective only against ,Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus. After that the therapeutic effect of Anti-inflammatory and Anti – pyretic activity of Santhanathi kuligai using egg albumin induced Anti – inflammatory model and Brewer's Yeast induced Anti- Pyretic activity in Male wistar rats. After the completion of preclinical study, the clinical evaluation of affected subjects with kanasuram symptoms in 3 to 12 age group was done in OPD and IPD. The prognosis of affected subjects was assessed based on general criteria, Siddha parameters, causes, signs and symptoms. As compared to male and female childrens male subjects are predominantly reported with KANASURAM symptoms mostly in munpani and pinpani kaalam. Most of male and female subjects belongs to mixed diet and predominantly in marutham thinai. Hence, the observations made during the clinical study showed that the drug SANTHANATHI KULIGAI was clinically effective. CONCLUSION: This present study indicates that the drug SANTHANATHI KULIGAI shows enormous and massive results within three days of the affected individuals. And someother restore their condition within a week. The drug subside the main symptoms fever ,headache and within a week it subsides the respiratory symptoms. Among the twenty ingredients in the trial drug greater number of the drugs having the action of diuretic, expectorant, perspiration, carminative and laxative. The action of these drugs has many properties to relieve the signs and symptoms of Kanasuram. So it can be effective in treating acute bacterial and viral infections. All the fourty patients are treated with the drug santhanathi kuligai from the age of 3 to 12 years. The drug is safe and no adverse reaction is seen during the trial period. The drug is purely herbal and innocuous to childrens. The clinical assessment of the disease were found to be good which was assessed by clinical results and prognosis. Hence the observation made during the clinical study explores that the trial drug SANTHANATHI KULIGAI was clinically effective in the management of KANASURAM in Childrens. Furthermore long term studies should be performed as this study was contains minimum number of samples. So that we can gain the complete information of Santhanathi kuligai and its action on affected individuals.
