Pregnant women are at great risk of developing UTI than men. UTI is classified into uncomplicated and complicated Infection Escherichia coli are the most predominant cause of UTI. This study was prospective observational study conducted for 4 weeks among 60 mothers all the primi gravid mothers all the gravid pregnant women were include in the study. out of 60 pregnant women, prevalence of UTI was highest among age group of 26-30 years and primi gravid was found to be of highest prevalence due to sudden drastic hormonal and physiological changes. The prevalence rate of UTI during pregnancy is high so it is important to do routine screening and counselling prevention measures to all pregnant women for significant bacteriuria to reduce maternal and perinatal consequences’ STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: “A study to Assess the Effectiveness of Self Instructional Module on Knowledge regarding Preventive measures of Urinary Tract Infection among Primi Gravid Mothers at Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Government Hospital for Women and Children, Egmore, Chennai" OBJECTIVES: 1. To assess the knowledge regarding preventive measures of urinary tract infection in pregnancy among primi gravid mothers. 2. To evaluate the effectiveness of self instructional module on preventive measures of urinary tract infection among prime gravid mothers. 3. To compare the pre test and post test level of knowledge regarding preventive measures of urinary tract infection in pregnancy among primi gravid mothers. 4. To associate demographic variables with the post test level of knowledge regarding preventive measure of urinary tract infections. METHODOLOGY: This study was conducted with 60 samples (primi gravid mothers) in quantitative approach, pre experimental one group pretest post test design; convenient sampling technique. pre existing knowledge was assessed by using semi structured questionnaires. After the pre-test, self instructional module was given regarding primi gravid mothers. after 7 days, post-test was conducted by using same tool. RESULTS: The findings of the study reveals that there is a statistical significance in knowledge on preventive measures of primi gravid mothers which shows the effectiveness of self instructional module with calculated paired “t” test value of t=11.93 score where as in post -test they are having 23.20score.This difference is large and it is statistically significant difference. CONCLUSION: The knowledge regarding preventive measures of urinary tract infection of primi gravid mothers improved significantly after they had undergone the self instructional module. The self instructional module found to be effective in improving the knowledge regarding preventive measures of urinary tract infective among primi gravid mothers.
