Abstract

Clubfoot is a common congenital foot anomaly due to lack of awareness and if neglected results in a lifelong disability. It is a need that awareness regarding club foot should be increased and health care providers should make good communication with parents, so that they could understand what is the problem, how it can be managed and how long to keep in follow up in order to avoid disability. Mothers needed to have adequate knowledge regarding management of Clubfoot in order to prevent the disability of child. TITLE: “A study to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge regarding management of clubfoot among mothers of children in Cure Clubfoot Clinic at Institute of Child Health and Hospital for Children, Egmore, Chennai- 08.” OBJECTIVES: 1. To assess the pretest knowledge regarding management of clubfoot among mothers of clubfoot children in experimental and control group. 2. To assess the post-test knowledge regarding management of clubfoot among the mothers of children in experimental and control group. 3. To compare the pre-test and post-test knowledge regarding management of clubfoot among mothers of children in experimental and control group. 4. To find the association between the post-test knowledge scores of the experimental group and control group with their selected demographic variables. METHOD AND MATERIALS: This study was conducted with 120 samples (mothers) in quantitative approach, true experimental for one experimental group and control group. Sampling selection was done by Simple Randomized sampling technique existing knowledge was assessed by using semi structured questionnaire after the pretest, structured teaching programme was given regarding management of clubfoot among mothers after 7 days post test was conducted by using same tool. RESULTS: The results shows that the mothers were gained 39.33% of score on knowledge in post- test compare to pre- test after structured teaching programme and the mean difference were 3.81by using McNamara’s chi-square test which is statically significant. CONCLUSION: The study findings proved that the structured teaching programme was appropriate, effective, and feasible. It helped the mothers to provide care to the children with clubfoot and it can be implemented in all settings.
