BACKGROUND: Bronchitis is inflammation of the airway in the lungs. Chronic bronchitis is when the cough with mucus persist for most days of the month, for atleast three months, and atleast two years in a row. Mainly chronic bronchitis is caused due to smoking, inhalation of dust or fumes, virus such as flu, bacteria. The symptoms includes cough for most of the month at least two years, with pain in abdomen and pain in the chest muscles, other symptoms include wheezing and shortness of breath. According to Boenninghausen’s concept of the totality one symptom can never be considered as sufficient indication and that every time the whole symptoms must correspond. He specifies seven points to understand the full picture of the disease: Quis, Quid, Ubi, Quibis auxilis, Cur, Quomodo, Quando. METHOD: 30 cases of patient suffering from chronic bronchitis were taken from the OPD, IPD and Rural Health Centre of Sarada Krishna Homoeopathic Medical College Hospital. The case details was recorded in the standardized pre-structured case record format of Sarada Krishna Homoeopathic Medical College and Hospital. The case was then analysed and totality of symptoms is erected and remedy selected according to Boenninghausen’s concept. Assessment had been done on subsequent follow-ups and changes observed in the patients are recorded. RESULT: All the 30 cases showed mild improvement based on statistical analysis of before and after CBSS scoring method for chronic bronchitis. CONCLUSION: The result of the study shows that selection of medicine according to Boenninghausen’s method of totality are effective in the treatment of chronic bronchitis.
