Abstract

AIM OF THE STUDY: of the present study was to compare the microleakage and to assess the sealing ability of three single cone obturating systems using a glucose leakage model. METHODOLOGY: A total of seventy freshly extracted human single rooted mandibular first premolar teeth with fully formed apices were selected for this study. Teeth were de-coronated and root lengths were standardized to a working length of 15 mm. Root canal preparation was carried out with rotary Hyflex CM file system in all groups. The specimens were then randomly divided into three experimental Groups I, II, and III (n = 20) and two control Groups Group IV and Group V (n = 5). Group I was obturated with Gutta-percha with AH Plus sealer, Group II was obturated with C-Points with Bioceramic sealer, Group III was obturated with Resilon cones with Epiphany sealer, Group IV - (Positive control) was obturated with Gutta-percha WITHOUT any sealer and Group V - (Negative control). Teeth were incubated for one week at 37 c. The sealing ability of root canal fillings was tested at different time intervals using glucose leakage model. Glucose leakage values were measured using a spectrophotometer at 505 and statistically analyzed. RESULTS: The three experimental groups presented significantly different (P < 0.05) glucose leakage values at all test periods (kruskal-wallis test). At the end of the observation period, the cumulative glucose leakage values of groups II and III were significantly (P < 0.05) lower than those of group I (Mann-whitney test). CONCLUSION: C-points with Bio-ceramic sealer showed lower glucose leakage values than Resilon/Epiphany and Gutta-percha/AH Plus.
