Abstract

OBJECTIVE: The main objective of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of instructional module on home care management of epilepsy among mothers of children with epilepsy at pediatric ward, Government Rajaji Hospital, Madurai. CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK: The conceptual framework for this study was based on the General system theory Ludwig von Bertalanffy 1968. DESIGN: The study employed Pre experimental one group pre test post test design. Participants were selected using Non probability purposive sampling technique. SETTING OF THE STUDY: The study was conducted in Pediatric medical ward at Government Rajaji hospital, Madurai-20. SUBJECTS: The study was conducted with the total number of 60 mothers of children with epilepsy at pediatric ward, GRH Madurai. INTERVENTION: Teaching with instructional module was given. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Pre and post test knowledge score was assessed using structured knowledge questionnaire. RESULTS: The mean pretest knowledge score was 5.35 and was increased in post test knowledge score 18.15. This increase in mean knowledge score was statistically highly significant and confirmed by paired ‘t’ test (t =39.51 and p=0.001). CONCLUSION: These findings supported the effectiveness of instructional module on home care management of epilepsy among mothers of children with epilepsy.
