Abstract
Out of 106 patients, inflammatory optic neuritis was the maximum presented patients. • Contrast sensitivity was decreased in most of the cases before the onset of dyschromatopsia in proven cases of optic neuritis. • In general the only measure to test visual function was visual acuity and colour vision but it is inadequate to measure the visual performance. Hence, contrast sensitivity was a strong indicator to analyse the visual function. • Systemic control of diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hypertension yielded a good prognosis and complete recovery in cranial nerve palsies except trauma. • TON, ON when presented early had a good visual prognosis measured through IND-VFQ-33 pre and post treatment. • Toxic optic neuropathy (ethambutol induced) had poor prognosis. • Some patients said that apart from routine investigation and treatment, evaluating about lifestyle was satisfactory • Hence, measuring the vision related quality of life using questionnaire, assessed the patients subjective feeling of the disease process than the clinical findings assessed by the doctors. • Also this questionnaire is effective to assess the quality of life of neuro ophthalmic patient’s, undoubtedly.
