Abstract
A Study was Conducted to Evaluate the Effectiveness of Video Assisted Teaching regarding Aerobic Exercise on Psychosocial Wellbeing among Alcoholics at Selected Villages, Salem. Quasi experimental (pretest posttest control) design was adopted. Setting of the study was Magundanchavadi and Ariyakoundampatty Villages, Salem. 60 samples (30 in each experimental and control group) were drawn through Snowball sampling technique. Pretest was done to assess the level of psychosocial wellbeing using structured interview schedule. Video Assisted Teaching on Aerobic Exercise was implemented to the participants. Posttest was done after 21consecuitive days of intervention. The data gathered were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistical method. The findings revealed that in Experimental group, during pre-test 2 (6.67%) 20(66.67%) and 8(26.67%) had good, moderate and poor psychosocial wellbeing respectively during post test, 2 (6.67%), 25 (83.33%) and 3(10%) had good, moderate and poor psychosocial wellbeing. However in control group, 1(3.33%), 18(60%), and 11(36.67%) had good, moderate and poor psychosocial wellbeing while in post-test, 2(6.67%), 17(56.66%) and 11(36.67%) of them had good, moderate and poor psychosocial wellbeing respectively. The mean pre and post test score in the level of Psychosocial wellbeing among experimental group was 85.8± 23.55 and 81.8±22.00 respectively. The estimated paired ‘t’ value was 5.854 which is higher than the table value 1.96 at p≤ 0.05 level. Hence hypothesis H1 was retained. The mean post test score in the level of Psychosocial wellbeing among experimental group and control group was 81.8± 22.00 and 96.3±20.35 respectively. The estimated independent ‘t’ value was 2.649 which is higher than the table value 1.96 at p≤0.05 level which shows that Video Assisted Aerobic Exercise was effective in promoting the level of psychosocial wellbeing among alcoholics. Hence hypothesis H2 was retained. There is no significant association between the level of psychosocial wellbeing and their selected demographic variables among experimental and control group. Hence H3 was rejected. Aerobic exercise is one of the effective non pharmacological treatments available for individuals with alcohol use disorder which is easily affordable and will help them in maintaining good psychosocial wellbeing.
