Abstract

This present study grew out of a perceived paucity of systematic research examining the relationships between stress and coping among employees. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: A study to assess the level of stress and coping among employees in a selected prison at Coimbatore with a view to develop an information pamphlet about coping strategies on stress management. OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: 1. To assess the level of stress and coping among employees. 2. To find out the relationship between the level of stress and coping among employees. 3. To determine the association between level of stress among employees with their selected demographic variables. 4. To determine the association between the coping among employees with their selected demographic variables. 5. To develop an information pamphlet about coping strategies on stress management. The study was conducted in Central Prison at Coimbatore. In this study nonexperimental descriptive design was used and non probability purposive sampling technique was adopted to select 60 samples. The self administered questionnaire was used to collect the data about stress and coping. After data collection information pamphlet of coping strategies on stress management given to the subjects. Data were analysed by means of descriptive and inferential statistics, result shows that 58.33% subjects were moderate stress, 38.33% were mild stress, 3.34% were severe stress and in coping 50% subjects were fair coping, 45% were very good coping, 5% were satisfactory coping, hence there is significant association between the level of stress and duration of work and significant association between the level of coping and educational status and type of work.
