Abstract
The preset study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on disposal of waste among the adults. The quasi-experimental study to evaluate the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on disposal of waste. Questionnaire method was provided to assess the knowledge on disposal of waste. After the pre test, the structured teaching program on disposal of was conducted by the investigator. Seven days after the structured programme the post test was conducted by using same questionnaire. The data was grouped and analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. CONCLUSION: The pre test score shows that 86 (86%) adults possessing inadequate knowledge and 14 (14%) had moderately adequate knowledgeand the post test shows that 18 (18%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 82 (82%) had adequate knowledge. NURSING IMPLICATIONS: i. The findings of the study showed that there was a significant level of improvement in knowledge regarding disposal of waste in adults after the structured teaching programme. ii. This study showed that the nurses have to organise health education programme in the community in a large scale. Nurses should utilise every opportunity of interaction with adults to improve knowledge through the health education. It is helpful to involve all the individual and family, so they can support each other, share responsibility and satisfaction of contribution in the public health. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING EDUCATION: The study implies that nurse educator have to be properly trained as how to teach the adults regarding disposal of waste and recent trends in disposal of waste .Nursing educator when plan to instruct the student, should provides adequate opportunity to conduct health education at community settings. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING PRACTICE: The nurse working in community setting should practice health education as an integrated part of nursing profession. The planned health teaching programmes have to be scheduled in the community setup in the fixed date with time for adults as well as to the family members and others in the community. IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSING ADMINISTRATION: The nursing administrator should give attention on the proper selection, placement and utilization of the nurses in all areas within the available resources giving more importance to the creativity in education of adults. The leader in nursing care confronted to undertake the health needs of the most vulnerable by effective organization and management. IMPLICATIONS FOR THE NURSING RESEARCH: Nursing today is involved in every issue in community care due to changes in the health care delivery system, advancement of technology and development of new discipline in medicine. This study directs the nursing personnel to broaden their horizons of knowledge and skill to elicit problem and to conduct many more research to raise their power to implement care activities. The findings of the study help the community health nurse and students to develop the enquiry by providing baseline data. The general aspect of study results can be, made by further replications of the study. This study helps in nursing research in depth into the better development of the nursing care regarding disposal of waste among adults in prevention of health hazards. RECOMMENDATIONS: The following recommendations were made by the investigator after the study. • Adult’s education could be improved by self help group and could be motivated by nursing personnel as part of the health care service. • Coverage by mass media like doordharshan and newspaper regarding disposal of waste to the general public. • Health education model related to importance of waste disposal and prevention of health hazards can be imparted to all the adults and to the public.
