The research design used for the study was pre experimental design. The research approach used for the study was evaluative approach which was conducted in Nanchiyampalayam of Dharapuram. The conceptual frame work based on the modified Ludwig von Bertlanffy system theory [1968]. A sample of 100 adults who met the inclusion criteria, were selected for the study, using purposive sampling method. The instrument used for data collection to assess the knowledge and attitude regarding first aid management of selected accidental emergencies among adults consisted structured interview schedule and five point likert scale. The investigator gave brief introduction and pretest was conducted for 45 minutes. On the same day structured teaching programme regarding first aid management of selected accidental emergencies was given using a compact disc and laptop. Posttest was done after 7 days using the same instrument. MAJOR FINDINGS OF THE STUDY: • Most of the adults [27%] were in the age group of 23-25 years. • Highest percentage [55%] of the adults were female. • Majority of the adults [61%] were married. • Highest percentage [52%] of adults were Hindu. • Most of the [39%] adults studied secondary education. • Most of the [34%] adults were unemployed /house wives. • Highest percentage [62%] of the adults had health information from health posters. • Majority [58%] of the adults were not exposed to accidental emergencies. • Majority [85%] of the adults were not given any first aid management. During pretest most of the adults (47%) had inadequate knowledge and 43 % of the adults had moderately adequate knowledge where as in posttest 63 % of the adults had adequate knowledge and 37 % of the adults had moderately adequate knowledge regarding first aid management of selected accidental emergencies. During pretest 38 % of the adults had unfavourable attitude and 52 % of the adults had moderately favourable attitude where as in posttest majority 84 % of the adults had favourable attitude and 16 % of the adults had moderately favourable attitude regarding first aid management of selected accidental emergencies. Highly significant difference was found between pretest and posttest knowledge and attitude scores at P<0.05 level. Significant association was found between posttest knowledge scores of adults with source of health information. Significant association was found between post test attitude scores of adults with occupation. The study revealed that the knowledge and attitude scores regarding first aid management of selected accidental emergencies was highly significant after administration of structured teaching programme. Thus structured teaching programme played an important role in improving the knowledge and attitude among adults. CONCLUSION: The study findings revealed that there was a significant improvement in the knowledge and attitude scores regarding first aid management of selected accidental emergencies among adults followed by structured teaching programme. Based on the statistical findings it is evident that provision of such kind of structured teaching programme will motivate the adults and help them to acquire knowledge (z value=8.78) and develop positive attitude(z value=17) regarding first aid management of selected accidental emergencies.
