Evaluative research design was adopted to evaluate the nursing care of children with protein energy malnutrition. Individualized nursing care was provided to children those who met the inclusion criteria. The study was conducted at Melmaruvathur Adhiparasakthi Institute of Medical Sciences and Research. The simple random sampling technique was administered and sample size was determined as thirty. Ongoing assessment was done with the rating scale prepared to analyze the health condition of the children with protein energy malnutrition and standard nursing care plan was prepared to render nursing care includes maintaining thermo regulation, maintenance of hydration status, administration of medication, maintenance of nutritional status, aseptic precautions, maintenance of hygiene, promoting physical activity, diversional therapy, health education, guidance and counseling to parents and follow up measures. 51 NURSING IMPLICATION Nursing care is the core of any disease. Holistic nursing care for children focus on helping the child, parents family members and community to achieve the optimal health. • The present study can help nurses to enrich their knowledge on care of children with protein energy malnutrition • Help nurses to identity the underlying causes and risk factors of children with protein energy malnutrition by monitoring the vital parameters like conscious level, vital science, nutrition status, degree of anemia, dehydration and condition of skin, lips, teeth, gums, bowel pattern, urine output, muscle tone and skin integrity. • Understanding the needs of children with protein energy malnutrition may help nurse to plan and provide appropriate nursing care to children.
