Abstract

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Programme on Knowledge on Blood Donation among Students in Government Higher Secondary School, Sothupakkam at Kanchipuram District. OBJECTIVES: 1. To assess the pre test and post test score regarding knowledge on blood donation. 2. To evaluate the effectiveness on knowledge of blood donation among higher secondary students. 3. To find out the association between the post test knowledge score with selected demographic variables. METHODOLOGY: RESEARCH APPROACH: In this study quantitative evaluatory approach is used to perform assess the effectiveness structure teaching programme on knowledge of blood donation among eleventh standard school students. RESEARCH DESIGN: Quasi experimental design was used for pre test & post test to assess the effectiveness of structured teaching programme on knowledge on blood donation among students. SETTING OF THE STUDY: The study is conducted at government higher secondary school sothupakkam, Kanchipuram district. POPULATION: Eleventh Standard Students in Goverment Higher secondary school at sothupakkam, Kanchipuram district. SAMPLE SIZE: 100 government higher secondary school students in Sothupakkam have been selected as samples for this study. SAMPLING TECHNIQUE: Simple Random Sampling Technique by using the lottery method. Inclusion Criteria: 1. Eleventh standard students. 2. Who are willing to participate in the study. 3. Who know English or tamil. 4. Who are present at the time of data collection. Exclusion criteria: 1. The students who do not have involvement in the study. 2. The students long absentees in the class. 3. The students who are sick in the class. SUMMARY: The present study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of knowledge of blood donation among the school students in Government Higher Secondary School, Sothupakkam. Quasi experimental research design was used for this study. 100 students who met inclusion criteria had been selected by using simple random sampling technique. The investigator first introduced him to the students and developed a rapport with them. The pre test was conducted among the students with the questionnaire regarding knowledge of blood donation. Then the structure teaching programme was given. Seven days after the post test was conducted by using same evaluation tool. The data collected was grouped and analyzed by using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. CONCLUSION: In the pretest out of 100 students, 88 (88%) students had possessed inadequate knowledge and 12(12%) had moderately adequate knowledge. In the post test 35 (35%) had moderately adequate knowledge and 65 (65%) had adequate knowledge. The.t. value 29.11 was compared with tabulated table value at the level of P< 0.05 was significant. Thus it was concluded that teaching programme was statistically effective.
