Abstract
The aim of the study is to evaluate the efficacy and safe chemotherapy for Kanam. • The etiology and the common clinical features of Kanam may be correlated to Tuberculosis in children. • For the clinical study, several cases were selected; out of these more than 50 cases were treated in OPD and 20 cases were treated in IPD of Government Siddha Medical College, Palayamkottai. • Clinical diagnosis of Kanam was done under the basis of clinical features of Siddha and modern methodology. The envagai thervugal helped to diagnose the disease. The various Siddha aspect examination of Kanam were carried out and recorded in the proforma. • Regarding the treatment, all the patients were treated with an Elai Erumal Chooranam for Kanam. In the average of 30 days treatment all the patients showed good relief in signs and symptoms. • The improvement in the conditions of the patients was observed from the second day of treatment itself in general. Observation made during the clinical study showed that the trial drug was clinically effective. In Biochemical analysis of • ELAI ERUMAL CHOORANAM has calcium, Ferrous Iron, and Unsaturated Compound. In Pharmacological analysis of, • ELAI ERUMAL CHOORANAM has significant, anti-pyretic, antihistamine, moderate antispasmodic, acute and chronic anti inflammatory action. In Microbiological study of, • ELAI ERUMAL CHOORANAM was moderate sensitive against staphylococcus aureus and sensitive against Klebsiella, E-coli. • The children above 7 years are advised to practice pranayamam for the better results. • It is pleasure to say that there was no report of any adverse effects like vomiting, diarrhoea, skin rashes during entire course of treatment in any cases. The parents and children were advised to follow preventive measures. CONCLUSION: From the present study, 1. The drugs are harmless because it contains purely herbs. 2. The preparation and administration of the drug is simple. 3. The cost of the trial medicines is comparatively very low. 4. The medicine has many properties to control the signs and symptoms of kanam. 5. No adverse effects were noticed during the course of treatment. So it is concluded that in developing country like India, the therapy of Elai Erumal chooranam with proper regular practice of pranayama will be very good in the view of efficacy, safety and cost in the treatment for kanam.
