Abstract

The clinical study on Udhira Vatha Suronitham was carried out in post graduate department of Maruthuvam, Govt. siddha medical college, Arignar Anna Hospital, Chennai-106 during the period of (2009-2011). ❖ 30 patient from OP and 10 cases from IP were treated in the P.G Department. The clinical and pathological assessment was carried out on the basis of siddha and modern aspect. ❖ All the 40 patients were treated with Ponmusuttai Chooranam (100mg twice daily) internally and Myilaragathy thylam externally. The duration of the treatment was fixed as 48 days. The response was assessed 7 days once in all OP patients and daily in IP patients with thokkanam. All the patients instruct to follow the Diet Regimon with Yoga and Exercise. No side effects were observed clinically in any of these cases during the course of treatment. The results obtained from the studies are summarized below: ❖ Female (75%) were affected more than males (25%) ❖ High incidence of cases were noted in th age group 20-40yrs. ❖ High incidence of cases was affected from House Wifes. ❖ Lower (38%) and middle (62%) classes were more affected than upper classes (15%). ❖ High incidence of Udhira Vatha Suronitham found to be more in Neithal thinai (75%) and kaar kaalam (45%) ❖ On examination of uyir thathukkal the following were deranged in more number of cases. ❖ In Vatham – viyanan (100%), Abanan (50%), Devathathan (50%), Samanan (50%), Kirugaran (50%) were affected. ❖ In pitham – sathagam (100%), Ranjagam (50%), Alosagam (5%), Prasagam (50%) were affected. ❖ In Kapham – santhigam (100%), kilathagam (50%) were affected. ❖ Among ezhu udal kattugal, saaram, senner, oon, kozhupu (100%), Enbu, Mooli (75%) were affected. ❖ Among envagai thervugal, Naa (75%), Niram (50%), Malam (50%), Sparism (75%) was affected. ❖ Naadi showed vadha pitham (75%), vadha kapam (25%) ❖ In Neikuri Vatha neer (12.5%), Pitha neer (37.5%), Kapha neer (50%) were seen. ❖ The patients responded to the trial medicine showing. Most of the cases improved subjectively complete subsidence of pain, disappearance of swelling improvement in general health and normal range of movement of extremities. CONCLUSION: ❖ Udhira vatha suronitham is primarily due to derangement of vatham. The trial medicine ‘ponmusuttai choornam’ which having kaippu suvai, it cures the disease according to oppurai. ❖ As per siddha materia medica the trial medicine is found to have the properties of controlling vatha disease. ❖ The ponmusuttai choornam having veppa veerium, it neutralizes the vatham. ❖ The Biochemical analysis of the trial medicine containg Phosphate, Iron, Calcium, Potassium, Sulphide, Alkaloid, Tannic acid. ❖ The Anti microbial study of Ponmusuttai Chooranam shows that is sensitive against Grame positive (Staphylo cocci aureus, Staphylo cocci albis) micro organisms. ❖ The trial medicine was subjects to acute sub acute toxicity studies to ensure the safety of the medicine. ❖ The pharmacological studies of the trial medicine ‘ponmusuttai chooranm’ gave significant analgesic, anti inflammatory and anti arthritic activity. ❖ Among 40 cases 50% cases showed good improvement in subsidence of pain, reduction in swelling, normal range of movements of extremities.35% of cases showed fair result. And 15% of them had no result. ❖ Present work has given good results as relieving from symptoms and improves general health. ❖ There are no adverse effects noticed during my trail. ❖ The bio-statistic result show the treatment for Udhira vatha suronitham has created a significant impact on the patients. ❖ As the results of this dissertation work in highly encouraging and the medicine being a cost effective one for the treatment of Udhira vatha suronitham, a further details studied will definitely by fruitful to the Society.
