Abstract

40 Female patients with Dhoora soolai were selected and treated with the trial medicines for three days of three consecutive menstrual cycles. ❖ The High incidence (42.5%) were in the age group of 15 – 20 yrs. ❖ Occupation was 42.5% are of students, 40% are house wives and 17.5% are working women. ❖ Women with higher incidence are of Lower class group of about 52.5%. ❖ 57.5% women were unmarried and 42.5% women are married. ❖ 47.5% patients were with family history, while 52.5% have no family history. ❖ All the patients(100%) were with lower abdominal pain, 35% had nausea, 20% had vomiting, 35% had loss of appetite, 32.5% had head ache, 30% had low back ache, 25% had urinary micturation, 37.5% had diarrhea, 17.5% had constipation and 72.5% were with scanty menstruation. Out of 40 patients 20% had mild but continuous lower abdominal pain, 60% had moderate pain, 20% had severe lower abdominal pain, 45% had intermittent pain and 35% had radiating pain. ❖ In vali types, 100% abanan, 100% viyanan, 45% udhanan, 35% samanan, 35% kirukaran and 30% devadhathan was affected. In Azhal, 100% sathagam, 47.5% ranjagam, 35% analagam was affected. In Iyam, 35% kilaethagam, and 30% santhigam and 10% pothagam was affected. ❖ Saaram and suronitham was affected in 100% of patients and Seneer was affected in 47.5% of patients. ❖ Naa 17.5%, Niram 17.5%, Mozhi 20%, Vizhi 22.5%, malam 55%, Moothiram 25% and 20% parisam was affected .Vathapitha naadi was noted in 42.5%, Pitha vatham naadi was noted in 32.5% and Vatha kapham was noted in 25% of patients. ❖ After treatment with the trial drug the lower abdominal pain are present in 17.5%, 10% had headache and backache, only 5% had vomiting and everybody were relieved from nausea, loss of appetite, urinary micturation, diarrhea, constipation and scanty menstruation. ❖ In chemical analysis, sulphide, chloride, phosphide, carbonate, iron, zinc, calcium, potassium, sodium, alkaloids, tannin and aminoacid are present. ❖ The toxicological study confirms that the Kazharchi mathirai had no toxic effects in experimental animals. ❖ The Kazharchi mathirai had writhing inhibition of 84.11% and also the drug is proved to be effective antispasmodic. ❖ In microbiological study, the drug is sensitive to E.coli, S.aureus, S.thypi, C.albicans. ❖ The Kazharchi mathirai and Ellu elagem both having kaarpu suvai, acts as an oppurai maruthuvam in treating Dhoora soolai. The presence of calcium, iron, sodium, potassium, vitamin E and emmenagogue activity is proved to be effective in menstrual cramps. ❖ Both preclinical and clinical datas are statistically analysed. The analgesic activity and antispasmodic activity was significant and the results of prognosis of clinical symptom of Dhoora soolai are also statistically significant. CONCLUSION: Dhoora soolai is a rogum which is primarily due to the derangement of vali kutram. ❖ The trial medicines, Kazharchi mathirai, Ellu elagem. Both having kaarpu suvai neutralizes the vali kutram and acts as a oppurai maruthuvam in treating Dhoora soolai. ❖ The presence of calcium, iron, sodium, potassium, vitamin E and emmenagogue activity in the trial drug is also proved to be effective in menstrual cramps. ❖ The pre clinical study confirms that the Kazharchi mathirai did not produce any toxic effects and the medicine is a safe drug for treating Dhoora soolai. ❖ The preclinical pharmacological study confirms that the trial drug Kazharchi mathirai had significant analgesic and antispasmodic activity. ❖ In Clinical study, the symptoms of Dhoora soolai were relived to maximum.No contra indication was reported during the course of the treatment. ❖ The trial drug is cost effective and easy method of preparation Therefore, this study concludes that there is a best solution for Dhoora soolai in Siddha system of medicine.
