Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Life of human being starts in aquatic pond. Liquor amnion is like an aquatic pond. It is a fluid filled medium inside the amniotic cavity necessary for fetal growth and development. Pregnancy is such a precious and wonderful thing a woman’s life that it should continue without any adverse outcome. Decrease of liquor amnion is attributed to so many causes that isolated oligo hydramnios where there is no fetal and maternal condition exist, unnecessary pregnancy intervention should be avoided. This descriptive study conducted on 100 obstetrics mother in the Institute of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. AIM & OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the perinatal outcome in term isolated oligohydramnios. MATERIALS & METHODS: A descriptive study on perinatal outcome in term isolated oligohydramnios with AFI < 5 cm with sample size 100. INCLUSION CRITERIA: AFI <5, SLIUG with cephalic presentation, 37 to 40 weeks gestational age, Intact Membrane. EXCLUSION CRITERIA: 1. Patient with PROM, 2. Congenital anomaly of fetus, 3. Multiple gestation, 4. Gestational age < 37 weeks or > 40 weeks, 5. High risk pregnancy. After taking detailed history and doing general examination AFI is measured by method described by Phelen et al (1987). The patients are followed by their mode of delivery. The babies were followed and assessed why they need for neonatal admission. RESULTS: In this study perinatal outcome is good with slightly increase in rate of caesarean section. CONCLUSION: Oligohydramnios contribute 2 to 3% of all pregnancies. Isolated oligohydramnios carries good prognosis considering the indication for caesarean section and actual need for NICU admission the rate of caesarean section can be decreased by close intrapartum fetal surveillance.
