The present study was done to evaluate the effectiveness of sodium bicarbonate mouth wash versus chlorhexidine mouth wash on oral mucositis among children undergoing chemotherapy at Government Rajaji hospital Madurai. OBJECTIVES: 1. To assess the level of the oral mucositis among children. 2. To evaluate effectiveness and compare sodium bicarbonate mouthwash and chlorhexidine mouthwash among children in group I and group II. 3. To associate the level of oral mucositis among children undergoing chemotherapy and their selected socio demographic and clinical variables. HYPOTHESES: H1: There is a significant difference between the pretest and posttest level and between the post test level oral mucositis. H2: There is a significant association between the level of oral mucositis among children and their selected socio demographic and clinical variables. METHODOLOGY: True experimental design used for 60 subjects by simple random sampling. WHO oral mucositis grading scale was used to assess pre test level of oral mucositis. Intervention was given three times a day for five days. Post test on 6th day. RESULTS: The result revealed that, there was a significant reduction in the level of oral mucositis confirmed by 2=12.52 at 0.01 level. CONCLUSION: This study statistically proved that sodium bicarbonate mouth wash was more effective than chlorhexidine mouthwash in reducing oral mucositis among children.
