Abstract

BACKGROUND: The study focuses on the metabolic alterations and various systemic involvement seen in patients diagnosed with Primary Sjogren’s Syndrome. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Our study included 30 patients who were diagnosed to have Primary Sjogren’s Syndrome according to the AECG criteria (American European Consensus Group) with evaluation of various metabolic parameters. RESULTS: In our study, we have analysed that the prevalence of various metabolic alterations namely- hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, Diabetes Mellitus and hyperuricemia was much higher when compared with normal age and sex matched population. CONCLUSION: The high prevalence of metabolic alterations in patients with Primary Sjogren’s Syndrome has been clearly established. Hence the need for earlier screening and treatment of these metabolic derangements should be considered.
