Abstract

AIM & OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is clinically evaluate the peri-implant soft tissue health and hard tissue response by CBCT after single tooth replacement with platform switched implants for a period of 1 year at regular 3 months time interval. MATERIALS AND METHODS: 14 subjects in age range of 18-60 years, with atleast one missing maxillary/ mandibular posterior tooth were selected and received 14 platform switched implants. Clinical parameters namely the gingival index, plaque index, sulcular bleeding index, probing depth, thickness of keratined mucosa, were recorded. The radiographic parameter, bone loss was measured at 6 sites namely mesial horizontal, mesial vertical, distal horizontal, distal vertical, buccal, lingual by using CBCT. All the parameters were recorded before and after implant placement and at 3 months interval till one year. RESULTS: The results showed significant differences (p≤ 0.05) for gingival index, plaque index, sulcus bleeding index, probing depth, thickness of keratinized mucosa. The marginal bone measurements showed a mean bone loss of 0.17±0.07mm at baseline and reached mean bone loss of 0.76±0.19mm at 1 year follow up. CONCLUSION: Bone loss was minimal using platform switched implants. Within the limitations of the present study the platform switched implants prevent early crestal bone loss.
