Abstract

AIM OF THE STUDY: To evaluate of serum testosterone level and bone mineral density in post menopausal women by using DEXA spine and Orthopantomography. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Only postmenopausal woman aged above 52yrs were enrolled in this study. Blood specimen were obtained by venipuncture. Stored at -80 degrees celcius to evaluate serum testosterone. Bone mineral density was assessed with panoramic radiograph (X- Mind Pano D Plus 100 mA unit) and Dexa spine. RESULTS: The average mean value of serum testosterone was lesser than the normal range in patients with osteoporosis and osteopenia with similar results in cortical thickness in OPG and density calculated in DEXA spine. CONCLUSION: Orthopantomography and serum testosterone should be mandatory advised by oral physicians to identify the patient with low bone mineral density refer the patient to general physician for further diagnosis and management. However, further studies should be carried out in larger population to substantiate the results.
