BACKGROUND: There is high prevalence of vaginal infections worldwide. According to the prevalence studies conducted among Gynaecological OPD cases of Sarada Krishna Homoeopathic Medical College Hospital based on symptoms it was about 33%. It occurs when the normal balance of the microbial flora of the vagina is disrupted and the vaginal pH increases. Low level of Lactobacilli, making the vaginal environment loses its protective acidity. OBJECTIVE: To observe the efficacy of Homoeopathic management in restoring normal vaginal flora. METHODOLOGY: A purposive sampling of 30 cases from Sarada Krishna Homoeopathic Medical College Hospital was done. Patients were selected on basis of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Quasi-Experimental Study - Pre-post test study without control group was followed as study design. Sexually active woman with leucorrhoea, who are on pure Homoeopathic medication for all her complaints during study period, are screened for abnormal flora using microbiological studies. Selection of appropriate medicine was done according to Homoeopathic principles. Follow up the cases periodically for signs and symptoms for minimum three months. RESULT: On re assessing the cases observed marked improvement in clinical features and a log decrease in abnormal microbial colony count of vagina. The pre and post investigations and scores were compared and analysed using appropriate statistical techniques for significance testing. CONCLUSION: Through this clinical study, it was proved that Homoeopathic medicines are effective beyond symptomatic control, beneficial in restoring normal vaginal flora and managing genital infections in sexually active women.
