Abstract

INTRODUCTION: The allergic rhinitis is a IgE mediated inflammatory reaction caused due to an allergen which indicates inflammation of nasal mucosa. The present study aimed to determine the effectiveness of homoeopathic medicines in Allergic Rhinitis as well as its effectiveness in reduction ofSerum IgE level. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Samples of 30 cases were considered from the patients with allergic rhinitis visiting the OPD, IPD and rural centres of Sarada Krishna Homoeopathic Medical College Hospital for homoeopathic treatment. The patients were selected randomly for the study and their details were recorded in standardized pre-structured case format. Serum IgE level test was carried out in all cases. The diagnosis was based on the clinical observation and investigations. Then the cases were analyzed and the totality was erected after which symptoms were evaluated. After repertorisation, a suitable remedy was prescribed. Follow-up was done in every 15 days interval and the changes in symptoms were recorded. Serum IgE level also carried out after 4-6 months of treatment. And the scoring chart was also included for the pre and post test assessment. Paired t-test was done for the Statistical Analysis. RESULT AND CONCLUSION: Among the 30 case, the majority of the patient belongs to adolescents and females. They were middle class and students, 15 (50%) among them show marked improvement, 11 (36.6%) cases show moderate improvement and 4(13%) cases show mild improvement. The statistical analysis carried out with paired ‘t’ test, the IgE level of allergic rhinitis before and after study shows 99.9% significant, in symptom scoring also it shows 99.9% significance statistically with p value is 0.05 level. This study shows that Homoeopathic medicines are effective in the management of Allergic Rhinitis and reduces the serum IgE level in the blood.
