Abstract

Diabetic Neuropathy is a major nerve damaging disease results from Microvascular injury due to uncontrolled diabetes mellitus. The objective of this study focused whether homoeopathic medicines are effectual in the management of DISTAL DIABETIC PERIPHERAL NEUROPATHY (DDPN) as well as its effectiveness in reducing the Vibration Perception Threshold (VPT). MAERIALS AND METHODS: A sample of 30 cases taken from the patients with DDPN visiting the OPD, IPD and RHC of SKHMC Hospital for homoeopathic treatment was indiscriminately selected for the study. The cases were analyzed, evaluated and remedy was prescribed. Assessment was done in every one-month and the symptoms were recorded. VPT of foot is measured quantitatively by using biothesiometer before and after treatment. The values of DNE Scoring and symptom scoring chart were also embraced for the pre and posttest assessment. Paired 't' test was accomplished for the Statistical Analysis. RESULT & CONCLUSION: Evidently, among the 30 cases under study, 26 cases (87%) shows marked improvement, Majority of screened patients in which 17 were males and 13 were females. The common associated complaints are numbness of soles, burning and tingling sensation. All the cases were evaluated once in 6 months interval and changes were recorded. The medicines, which are found to be more effective are SULPHUR and LYCOPODIUM. This study provides an evidence to show that there is significant reduction in the disease intensity scores after administering Homoeopathic Medicines. Hence, we can infer that Homoeopathic medicines have a very predominant role in the treatment of DDPN. It is also effective in the reducing VPT. In addition, the results are statistically significant.
